Directions for use:

Adults and older people:

The recommended dose is 1 tablet twice a day for (e.g. one in the morning and one in the evening).

Pregnant women:

Take 1 tablet per day.

You should take the tablet with a large glass of water (200 ml).

If you are more than 65 years-old or have difficulties swallowing, you should divide the breakable tablet in two parts and take them with a large glass of water (200 ml). The scoreline is only there to help you break the tablet if you have difficulty swallowing it whole.

In the two hours before taking Caltrate, you should avoid eating foods containing oxalic acid (e.g. spinach and rhubarb) or phytic acid (e.g. wholegrain cereals), which can reduce calcium absorption.

This medicine may be used during pregnancy, however the total daily intake of calcium should not be higher than 1500 mg and the daily intake of vitamin D not higher than 600 IU. Therefore, in the case of pregnancy, the daily dose of Caltrate must not exceed one tablet per day. Higher amounts may have a negative effect on the unborn child.

Warnings:

Do not take if you have or have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients, or if you suffer from kidney stones, kidney failure, kidney calcium deposits, overactive parathyroid gland, disease of the bone marrow/bone tumours or have problems with the levels of calcium or vitamin D in your blood.

Consult your pharmacist/doctor before taking if you are taking any other medication, prescribed or non prescribed, are taking other calcium or vitamin D containing products, are immobile and suffering from osteoporosis, or you suffer from an immune disorder.
